The Fresno City College Training Institute is a certified training provider for phlebotomy as authorized by the state of California. This means your training will meet all the California requirements. The phlebotomy program includes 48 hours of theory and 120 hours of clinical rotation experience. Attendance at orientation on November 16, 2010 is required to register for phlebotomy training programs starting in 2011. Orientation starts at 6:00pm at the VA Hospital Auditurium, 2615 E. Clinton Ave, Fresno. Due to the high demand for this program, participants are chosen through a lottery system.

What you'll learn:

• The crucial elements of safety and infection control
• Step-by-step methods for blood withdrawl
• Commonly used collection devices
• Preparation of specimens for processing

How you'll benefit:

• Your training meets the state of California requirments
• Gain hands-on clinical experience of at least 100 successful venipunctures, 25 skin punctures and 5 arterial observations
• On-site theory and skills training at the VA Central California laboratory

• Immunizations and liability insurance
• A high school diploma or GED
• Purchase of books and scrubs
• CPR card (American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers)
• Criminal record and background check

Note: Criminal record clearance or background check may be required for licensing as a Phlebotomist.

In 2011, Phlebotomy programs will begin in January, April, August, and October.
